Mokujiki Kannon-do in Niigata Prefecture

I introduced Enku in this blog. In the Edo period, there are two famous Buddhist sculptor. They are Enku and Mokujiki.

When people watch Buddhist statues of Mokujiki, they think that the statues smile slightly. Smiling is the most attractive point of Buddhist statues of Mokujiki.

I went to Niigata Prefecture June 18 and 19 to see Buddhist statues of Mokujiki. I visited Mokujiki Kannon-do in Ojiya city. There are 33 statues of Mokujiki left in the temple.

The smiling of Buddhist statues made me happy.
Note that Mokujiki Kannon-do is usually closed. It opens only 17th every month.
